چکیده

Mass spectrometry (MS) offers advantages over conventional spectroscopic assays because it enables structural determination of reactants while preserving temporal resolution. The ability to detect short-lived reaction intermediates or labile metabolites makes time-resolved MS (TRMS) measurements an enabling tool for studies of chemical reactions, chemical kinetics and biochemical dynamics. High temporal resolution requires careful optimization of the interface, which would enable quenching of the chemical process, ionization and rapid transfer of the analytes into the mass analyzer. We review recent advances in TRMS, and outline the prospects for future developments and applications. a 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Time-resolved ICP-MS measurement: a new method for elemental and multiparametric analysis of single cells.

Time-resolved inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) has attracted much attention for elemental and multiparametric analysis of single cells, instead of a classical bulk analysis of large amount of cells after a dissolution. In the time-resolved measurement, cells are directly introduced into the plasma via nebulizing or micro drop dispensing, and then ion plumes corresponding to...

Biological tissue imaging with a position and time sensitive pixelated detector.

We demonstrate the capabilities of a highly parallel, active pixel detector for large-area, mass spectrometric imaging of biological tissue sections. A bare Timepix assembly (512 × 512 pixels) is combined with chevron microchannel plates on an ion microscope matrix-assisted laser desorption time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MALDI TOF-MS). The detector assembly registers position- and time-resol...

Spatially resolved quantification of gadolinium(III)-based magnetic resonance agents in tissue by MALDI imaging mass spectrometry after in vivo MRI.

Gadolinium(III)-based contrast agents improve the sensitivity and specificity of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), especially when targeted contrast agents are applied. Because of nonlinear correlation between the contrast agent concentration in tissue and the MRI signal obtained in vivo, quantification of certain biological or pathophysiological processes by MRI remains a challenge. Up to now,...
